Course Overview
The course is an accredited test facility(ATF) through the (AWS)American Welding Society That allows students the possibility of earning national industry certifications.The course is highly project-oriented and hands-on, with a focus on teaching various welding and fabrication processes such as SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW. Additionally, students will learn plasma cutting, Carbon Arc Cutting, and oxy-fuel cutting.
The Welding I course begins focusing on teaching core welding techniques such as basic setup of oxy-fuel equipment, grinder usage.During welding 1 students can obtain national certifications in Stick(SMAW) welding, and Mig(GMAW) welding.
Welding II offers more advanced opportunities to perfect welding skills and complete projects. During Welding II, students can obtain the national AWS certification in Flux core arc welding(FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). Senior year will focus on pipe welding techniques.
In addition students will learn Fabrication skills,Blueprint reading, auto cad and Inspection methods with a concentration on (NDT)Non Destructive Testing methods.
The course aims to help students work towards assigned competencies to find employment, receive college articulation credit, and/or receive certification in a Welding and Fabrication career. It is expected that students act in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
All students will become members of the AWS and SkillsUSA student member organizations here at Parkway.
