Healthcare Occupations Technology

Healthcare Occupations Technology

Course Overview

The Healthcare Occupations Technology program provides students with a variety of opportunities to learn and develop the essential skills needed to pursue a career in healthcare. Throughout the program, students have the ability to earn certifications, such as OSHA-10 for Healthcare Professionals, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Professional. These certifications can be extremely valuable as our students graduate and enter the healthcare industry. Many of the students that take this course have dreams of becoming a nurse after graduation.

As lecture is an important part of the Healthcare Occupations Technology program, engaging in clinical rotations in 11th and 12th grade helps put all the knowledge learned in previous years together. Clinical rotations can occur in nursing homes, hospitals, or doctor’s offices. These firsthand experiences are a valuable way for students to gain experience in the healthcare industry and help them identify which career path they want to pursue after graduation.

An addition to the program in 2023 is a new simulation manikin. As technology is the way of the future, our students will learn how to take care of a patient at the bedside in many different aspects. Our new simulation manikin comes with heart sounds, lung sounds, blood pressure readings in both arms, and so much more.
